Learning the Process Groups

Project management processes are grouped in five Project Management Process Groups:

  1. Initiating Process Group
  2. Planning Process Group
  3. Executing Process Group
  4. Monitoring and Controlling Process Group
  5. Closing Process Group

These Process Groups are independent of the application areas, (such as marketing, information services, or accounting) or industry focus (such as construction, aerospace, telecommunications). Individual processes in the Process Groups are often iterated prior to completing a phase or a project. The number of process iterations and interactions between processes varies based on the needs of the project.

NOTE: You cannot simply practice answering questions to prepare for PMP exam. The questions are provided to help you assess your knowledge and to get you familiar with the types of questions that are on the exam. Make sure you focus your study efforts on reading PMBOK and other books, watching videos, passing mock exams, review your Knowledge Map, and filling gaps in your project management knowledge.
